Marriage License

Requirements to apply:  

Must be getting married in the State of Kansas 

To apply you must be one of the parties getting married 

Must be 18 years or older  

Not currently married to each other or anyone else  

& Not related to each other 

 

For minors:  

​

  • If you are 17, we require 1 parent, your birth certificate and photo ID for both the minor and the parent accompanying you.  

  • If you are 16, we require BOTH parents, your birth certificate and photo ID for the minor and the parents.  

 

Marriage License Application Info:  

​

  • Our office accepts in person applications between 8-11:30AM or 1-4:30PM, Monday-Friday except for holidays.

  • In the State of Kansas there is a 3-day waiting period after applying, to obtain the Marriage License to have a ceremony.

  • Once the Marriage License is issued, it's valid for 6 months.

  • Marriage License Fee is $85.50 (Cash Only Exact Change)

 

Obtaining certified copies of a Marriage License:

  • Certified copies of marriage license after May 1, 1913 are available ONLY at the Office of Vital Statistics.  

  • You may call them at: (785)296-1400 

  • Online at:  https://www.kdheks.gov/vital/marriage_howto.html 

  • Or in person at 1000 SW Jackson Ste. 120 Topeka, KS 66612  

  • Unsure if they are open to the public due to COVID 

 

Certified copies prior to May 1, 1913 can be obtained in our office at the court house as long as we have record of said marriage. Our records go back to July 1859.
